Adhoc Baroque will present a concert at St Edmund’s Anglican Church, Biala Street, Gunning, at 2pm on Sunday, 23 April.

The program for the concert is:

G. Brunetti – Stabat Mater
A. Scarlatti – Salve Regina
A. Stradella – O Vos Omnes
M. Charpentier – Magdalena lugens

The full ensemble is :
Peter Young, organ
Greta Claringbould, soprano
Maartje Sevenster, alto
Barbara Jane Gilby, violin 1
Pip Thompson, violin 2
Michelle Higgs, viola
Clara Teniswood, cello

The centerpiece of this concert is the beautiful, unpublished Stabat Mater set in 1756 by Giovanni Brunetti, Pisa’s leading musician of the day. He wrote it as a homage to Pergolesi’s renowned piece. This setting has been newly edited by Peter Young from the manuscript held in Switzerland. Adhoc Baroque performs the Australian premiere of this piece in Canberra on 9 April.

Adhoc Baroque is a new ensemble of Canberra musicians committed to bringing vocal and chamber masterworks of the Baroque (one-to-a-part) to our audience, capturing some of the atmosphere of that extraordinary age. In 2016 we gave our first four performances comprising Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in March, Italian cantatas by Handel, Vivaldi, and Scarlatti in June and November, and a
program of French baroque music by Charpentier and his contemporaries in December.
